The Fellowship of Bards, Performers and Artists

The Bridge Gate Players

LThe Bridge Gate PlayersORDS AND LADIES, good citizens of Sarbreenar, we are pleased to present to you our humble Guild. Here, musicians, actors, artists and performers of all kinds live and work, producing fine entertainment and works of art for your enjoyment. Our theatre, The Bridge Gate Playhouse, offers regular performances by some of the most talented bards hereabouts. Come on down for a great show!’

Guild Operations

The Bridge Gate Players are recognised and respected by commoners and nobles alike, while non-guild bards have a hard time even finding a place to perform.

Any member may live at th eplayhouse without a fee. Many bards come and go, allowing their membership to lapse for months or years before returning. Although they lose their rank privileges, they retain their rank and can rejoin when they return.(no re-election fee). Apprentices however, are quite another matter. If they leave the Players for more than a few weeks at a time, they can never return to finish their training unless they gain the Guildmaster’s personal permission, and you had better have a very good reason as he does not often tolerate lack of dedication in students.

The Bridge Gate Players is broken down into 3 ranks.

Non Guild Members

Non-members who wish to take up the performing arts may obtain the services of a Guild member as a teacher. Fees are to be negotiated between pupil and teacher. Where training is to take place within the guild house and or the Guilds own property is to be used, 20% of the fees are to be paid to the Guild.

Non-members, who stage a performance within the walls of Sarbreenar and receive a payment of any type, must levy 25% of the sum received to the Guild. Or face the consequences.

The Guildhouse

The Brotherhood Guildhouse, a large four-story building, resembles a well-off merchant’s town house from a distance. The foundation and lower two levels are made of smooth-cut stone blocks, while the upper stories are stained wood, reinforced with thick wooden beams. Dotted with many windows, it is located in a wealthy district of Sarbreenar, although it is also easily accessible from the area inhabited by the lower classes. One distinctive feature is its sign – that of a bridge gatehouse over which a rebec and a recorder crossed have been superimposed.

Inside, the guildhouse has a homey feel, like a familiar tavern or inn. The huge common room and kitchens mostly take up the ground floor. Large wooden tables cover the floor; all are worn but in excellent condition. Some of the chairs are beautifully engraved but most are plain but functional. Bards are here constantly engaged in eating, arguing, practising, or giving impromptu concerts or lessons. The few small dining rooms are dusty with disuse. On the first floor are individual practice and lesson rooms. Thick walls prevent bards from disturbing each other’s work.

The top two levels are divided into sleeping rooms. Apprentices bunk together in a large room on the third floor, near the smaller private rooms for the Journeymen. The second floor is reserved for Minstrels and Master Bards. A small number of rooms are usually available as guest chambers.

Master Crafter Aleanna Undiminie

An immigrant from the nearby elven community, Aleanna came into the city one day with her uncle on a trading mission on the very day that a musical festival was being celebrated, liked what she saw, stayed and eventually joined the Guild where she is a very popular attraction in the Guildhouse.
